What started with a strong focus on iOS development quickly grew into a broader role in which, as Chief Technology Officer, he co-determines the strategic direction of the product. His experience in software development, combined with a keen eye for user experience, makes him a driving force behind the platform's digital innovations.

From iOS Engineer to healthtech pioneer

Bart began his career in 2011 as an iOS Engineer, working on major projects such as the WeTransfer app. Although this experience provided a solid foundation for his technical skills, he was looking for more meaning in his work. He wanted to use technology to have a tangible, positive impact on people's lives. At Caro Health, he found the perfect environment to realise that ambition. As CTO, he now leads a team that develops secure, user-friendly software that supports both patients and healthcare professionals in their daily work.

For Bart, it is clear what lies at the core: “It is all about reducing manual work and delivering real-time, accurate information to clinicians and patients,” he emphasises. This philosophy forms the foundation of his technological choices at Caro Health.

Technology and security in healthcare

An essential part of Bart's role is continuously ensuring and updating information security within Caro Health. As an active member of the information security team, he plays a key role in strengthening digital security and adhering to the highest standards. In addition, he works intensively on realising efficient and secure connections with EHR systems, allowing the platform to integrate seamlessly into existing healthcare processes. Bart is also closely involved in the further development of Caro’s AI modules, which are aimed at reducing administrative burdens and better supporting healthcare professionals in their work.

Caro Health's platform bridges the gap between patients and healthcare professionals by centralising secure communication. This not only reduces administrative tasks for doctors, but also ensures that patients receive timely support. Bart is particularly proud of the AI-powered translation tool, which enables multilingual communication: “Following a successful pilot last year, we are now rolling out this feature across the entire platform.”

According to Bart, Caro also makes a difference at the system level: “This improves the care experience for everyone by creating a seamless, integrated data flow, where healthcare providers always have the most up-to-date information and patients receive personalised care. By prioritising collaboration over competition, we are building a healthcare ecosystem that benefits everyone.”

When it comes to the future, Bart sees plenty of growth opportunities for Caro Health. “Caro is already a powerful tool, but I see it evolving further with AI-driven insights that help healthcare professionals make decisions smarter and faster.” He looks forward to the addition of personalised health recommendations, predictive analytics, and deeper EHR integrations.

A concrete example he is excited about: “An idea I am particularly excited about is the further development of our AI chat module, which enables patients to navigate their treatment pathway via a real-time chat experience.”

According to Bart, technology can help patients gain more control over their own treatment and become involved in their care process. “When patients have insight into their health, they become more engaged and can make informed choices. This helps healthcare professionals see the complete picture.”
